Produce
Leamington is known as the “Tomato Capital of Canada” but tomatoes are just one of the many foods being grown locally. The town’s warm, sunny climate and fertile soil make it an ideal location for growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
Many local farms and greenhouses operate in the area, supplying fresh, high-quality produce to nearby markets, roadside stands and processing facilities.
Leamington is a major producer of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other greenhouse crops that are shipped across Canada and the United States. Leamington has become an important hub for the produce industry, with numerous agricultural businesses and transportation networks supporting the region’s bountiful harvests.
During tomato harvest (mid-August to mid-October), you will see trailer loads full of tomatoes making their way from the fields surrounding Leamington to the Highbury Canco food processing facility in the middle of town.
